If you haven't heard of Gina Zavalis yet, you're about to. The latest news is that Ms. Zavalis is supporting CCM headliner Michael English on June 2nd at the Rodgers Theatre in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Named one of the "Hot 100 Live Unsigned Artists & Bands of 2012" by industry leader, Music Connection Magazine, the Brooklyn native is poised for a stellar 2013. The magazine's staff as well as independent journalists, bookers and other industry heavyweights, makes the selection of artists. They're not alone; take a look at who else is singing her praises!
Nashville's been good to Ms. Zavalis. For her self-titled debut EP, she collaborated with Nashville Producer Doug Beiden, who is best known for producing Mandisa, Jennifer Page and Michael Sweet of Stryper. Ms. Zavalis is repped by A List Manager Scott McReynolds of Nashville's Vertical Entertainment, who also launched CCM headlining artist Britt Nicole's career. He also is Executive in Charge of Artist Development for powerbroker Tom Jackson, Taylor Swift's coach. Not that this artist needs much coaching according to:
Ms. Zavalis' debut EP has been garnering national and international major market radio plays. In August of last year, Ms. Zavalis was also chosen by iHeartRadio as an "Artist to Watch" as well as a "New! Discover & Uncover" vocalist. The station's website has this to say about Ms. Zavalis:
"In Your Eyes" has also been getting airplay on the Deuce Radio Show out of London. Deuce has been broadcasting the Beiden/Zavalis single on over 40 stations worldwide, including major markets in the U.S., Europe and the U.K. Thanks to Deuce Management & Promotion, Ms. Zavalis' other singles "I Am Here" and "Reach For Me" have also been picked up and are playing worldwide, on Deuce as well as other stations.
The results are that Ms. Zavalis has been booking major venues to perform the National Anthem. In December, she opened for the NCAA Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival at the Barclay's Center. Last September, she was seen on ESPN2 for the "OneMain Financial 200" Nationwide NASCAR Series Race live from the Dover International Speedway, in Dover, Delaware.
A slew of recent live performances singing the National Anthem for her alma mater, Fordham University had the Fordham Rams NCAA basketball team undefeated at six to zero, for her most recent appearance. Even the University's press office is calling Ms. Zavalis Fordham's "Lucky Charm!"
A similar reaction to Ms. Zavalis' delivery of that same song at Yankee Stadium, led to this incredible on air exclamation:
Rarely do audiences have the treat of witnessing a talent like Ms. Zavalis. Consider her four-plus octave range and acting skills. Add to that her enviable chops as a songwriter and composer. Her single "In Your Eyes" jumped to Number One on the Nashville local pop chart for ReverbNation, and has held that position for four weeks and counting!. The song was also at Number One for two consecutive weeks on the Fan Faves Top 50 Chart for Indieheaven
A tireless worker and self-promoter, Ms. Zavalis has built a strong fan base on both Facebook and Twitter. So much so, LA's LaFamos PR & Branding took notice and signed her. Shortly thereafter, she received a glowing review in Yahoo! Voices where she was compared to Celine Dion.
Ms. Zavalis' online accolades keep coming. Take a look at what Vivoscene has to say:
In the works is a Kickstarter campaign to fund her second EP, spearheaded by LaFamos. The new album has none other than legendary CCM Producer, Nashville's Don Koch of Carson City Music. Koch has multiple Dove Awards and 38 Number One CCM songs. Some of the artists that he's worked with are Bob Carlisle, Larnelle Harris and Cindy Morgan. As a songwriter, he's collaborated with Michael Crawford, Phillips Craig and Dean, Brian Littrel of the Backstreet Boys, Michael English and Donnie Osmond.
Also on board for Ms. Zavalis' second EP is acclaimed LA Composer, Bob Barrett. Some of his past collaborations include Joe Cocker, Diana Ross and Pat Benatar. Barrett recently collaborated with another CCM artist, American Idol finalist, Colton Dixon, on his debut CD, "A Messenger", which is already rocking the charts. Barrett's music was just commissioned by ABC for a new reality/competition series airing in April called "Bet On Your Baby."
Ms. Zavalis also caught the attention of bluesman Maurice "Whiteboy Slim" Libby. He not only went on tour with Ms. Zavalis, but penned "Come On Daddy, Make it Better" a sizzling blues standard in her honor. Each success leads to more recognition. Developments soon to be announced will catapult her career even further, and bring more kudos like these:
It's obvious that the singer/songwriter from Brooklyn is poised to be the kind of overnight success that began at the tender age of 10, when she first sang professionally with the Ryan Repertory Company of Brooklyn, New York. Her training continued under the skilled supervision of Voice Teacher Vicki Panvini Lane, a former backup singer for the iconic Judy Garland.
Ms. Zavalis is a classically trained vocalist, with a BA and concentration in Musical Theatre from the prestigious Fordham University at Lincoln Center in NYC. While at Fordham, she studied under the tutelage of industry leaders like: Tony Award winning, Ben Harney of the original cast of "Dreamgirls"; the prolific Broadway Musical Director, the late Don Jones; as well as Director and Uta Hagen protégée, Carol Rosenfeld of HB Studio. Ms. Zavalis and her undeniable talent so caught the ear of these industry greats that she was selected to sing the National Anthem at Lincoln Center's world famous Avery Fisher Hall to a standing ovation.
Not only is Ms. Zavalis an accomplished singer, but she also brings a fierce acting ability to every performance. An original cast member of the Official National Tour of "Tony n' Tina's Wedding", she owned the stage in the Co-Starring role of Donna Marsala, produced by Broadway producers, Pace Productions.
There were numerous Starring and Co-Starring roles in New York City at venues such as the venerable Mint Theatre Company. Ms. Zavalis also gave powerhouse performances in many regional and national productions among them Eva Peron in "Evita"; Rosalia of "West Side Story"; The Witch of "Into The Woods" and Emma in "Song and Dance."
Clearly, it's only a matter of time before Ms. Zavalis becomes one of those few performers who is known worldwide solely by her given name...Gina. Once you hear her, you'll agree, she won't be "Waiting" (Gina Zavalis, EP) much longer. Go here to experience #TheVOICE that is Gina Zavalis: http://www.ginazavalis.com.
